How Similar is the Sciphone to an iPhone? I'll Tell You

Naeem

I get a lot of emails asking me to compare the SciPhone i68 to Apple's iPhone. People want to know just how similar the two really are and what they'll have to sacrifice in order to enjoy the savings of not having to be tied to a contract with the clone. I'll try to outline the similarities and differences in the the following article.

The SciPhone Shares The Appearance And Many Of The Features Of The iPhone Without The Cost And Commitment: At first glance, the i68 is a dead ringer for the iPhone. You can even get the same wallpapers. The i68 is sleek and streamlined and doesn't feel cheap or lacking in your hand. It also has the flow touch interface with Apple made popular.

It has almost all of the features that the original has, including Bluetooth, web browsing, texting, MMS, email, media player (MP3 / MP4), digital camera and web cam, and an e book reader. It also supports Java and can accommodate up to 8GB of memory. But, it also has some things that the "real" phone doesn't. It has FM radio. It allows for two SIM cards. You can remove the battery yourself. And it has the shake and tilt feature. It accepts any GSM SIM card (or cards), including AT&T and T Mobile, and this is not excluding the pre paid or pay as you go plans. So you do have quite a bit of flexibility as to how much you are paying per month without any commitment. Depending on which carrier you are using, you can often get talk, text, and web for around $20 per month if you are willing to go pre paid.

How Much Do You Need Or Want Apple's Applications?: If there's one place where the clones are lacking, it's that you won't go to the apps store to see all of the new applications that the tech guys have cooked up. Only you can decide how important this is to you. With that said, you do have access to some pretty cool applications via Java and most of these are free, but who knows if you will enjoy this experience as much as the apple version.

The bottom line is that the SciPhone is a very good replica of the original iPhone. But, it's not the original and it doesn't really claim or try to be because it did deviate from the recipe with the bonus features that it added. And, it does allow you the technology that you really want without the price that you don't, but you will have to sacrifice the apps store to enjoy this. I find that people who are attracted to the clones really don't care about all of the hype. They just want the touch features without having to pay a huge price or cost for it.
